Does RS support to change the report size automatically?-URGENT!!!

I will use MSRS to create reports in a .Net Smart Client project later.

For some kinds of report, there are some customized columns which may be displayed or not. I design these reports like this: first create all the columns, then set the "Visibility-Hidden" property of those customized columns using expression which including some report parameters. Thus, these customized columns can be displayed or hidden by setting the value of the report parameters at the runtime. But another problem emerged. The size of report backgroud can not changed automatically along with the length of DataTable. So if there are some columns be hidden, there will be some margin on the right of the report and the Title of report was still in the center of the original report, not changed to the center of the new one. Due to the "Size " property of report and the "Size"&"Location"properties of textbox does not support expression.

Is there any one can give me some solution?

I am not sure whether the current version of MSRS support such kind of requirement? If not, will the MSRS final release comes out on November 7 support it?

Thanks!

Hi!

I also have this problem! I am building subreports that are getting more and more generic, but now I have noticed that the (optionally) hidden rows in the subreport's table is showing up as blank space on the main report. That makes this useful way of making the subreports nothing more than useless.

I have found no way to set the size of the subreport "background" or rectangle smaller than the designed area.

The reporting services seems more and more tied down to me. It has to have much more abilities than it currently has to survive. At the moment automation of Word seems much more flexible, but is client based. Still, in many situations the current RS will not deliver enough to fulfill the requirements. I hope this will change soon.

/Michael

|||The report never shrinks the size of the body so hiding a bunch of columns won't help your report. If you want a title to span the items in a table, put it in the table header, similar to how this matrix report was done: http://blogs.msdn.com/bwelcker/archive/2005/05/11/416720.aspx.|||But I am using a "table" as a way of displaying different checkboxes and texts, as a form, and sometimes one or more of the rows in these (generic) subreports are not to be used and I hide them (that's what makes it more generic).

I am not using it to show a list of information but as a way of showing a dynamic one-page form.

When I hide a row it shows up as approximately half a row of blank space on the main report. In this case the Visiblity setting is useless since there is too much space between subreports on the main report.

Does Reporting Services work with Novell Groupwise?

Can anyone please confirm how well e-mail delivered subscriptions of
reports work using Novell Groupwise as the mail solution?
There is a post in this forum that suggests Novell Groupwise suffers
from the same corruption of PDF and Excel attached reports as Lotus
Notes. We've run it with V6.5 GroupWise using PDF attachments without any problems
so far.

Does report support this parameters: ...&rs:Format=HTML4.0&rc:Parameters=false&ChainID:isN

hi,
I am working on some report page which will be access via URL.
And I found some old reports URL look like this:
...&rs:Format=HTML4.0&rc:Parameters=false&UserID:isNull=True...
What does the UserID:IsNull=True means? Is this right format for
SSRS2005?
ThanksIt means you have a parameter defined for your report called UserID and
you're setting its value to null via the URL.

The UserID:IsNull=True notation is special syntax that allows you to pass null values as report parameters. In this case, you're passing null to the UserID parameter. For more info, see Books Online here:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms155391.aspx

Here's all the info about URL access with Reporting Services:

Does Report Builder support Analysis Services Databases?

The webcast on Report Builder mentioned that you can run reports that were
created in Report Designer in Report Builder. Is it possible? There are two questions in your post.
1. Does Report Builder support Analysis Services Databases?Yes, with
Analysis Services 2005. You can automatically generate the model from an
SSAS 2005 cube in the Management Studio.
2. Is it possible to open reports that were created in the Report Designer
in the Report Builder? Sort of. Some Report Designer features are not
supported in the Report Builder since the Report Designer is more advanced.
I am not aware about a document that lists all of these features. The
reverse should be OK -- you shoudl be able to open Report Builder reports in
the Report Designer.

Thanks for the info.
I am not able to open a Report Builder report iN Report Designer. When I go
to the preview screen of the report (.rdl), it throws an error that it cannot
find the Model. I guess we need to change the rdl definition to open it
properly. Do you have any idea how to correct the information and open Report
Builder report in Report Designer.

2. Open it in your RS project. You shoudl be able to see its layout but not
to preview it.
3. Add a data source based on the Report Server Model. extension with a
connection string, such as
server=http://localhost/reportserver;datasource=/<Folder>/<your model name>
4. Link the report dataset to that data source.
Now you should be able to preview the report.

Does Interactive Sort works with Snapshots and Cached Reports?

I have created reports in RS 2005 using interactive sort on some columns.
When the reports are rendered real time, the sort works perfectly. When the
execution is changed to Snapshot, the sorting no longer works. When the
execution is set to Cached, the sort works the first time the report is
viewed, but not in subsequent viewings.
If this is a known bug, I'll give up on including this feature in my
reports. Can anyone confirm if this is supposed to work in RTM or SP1, or if
it's still on the bug list?
Thanks.I have this exact problem in designer mode with Visual 2005!
I have no clue what is going on - at times with RS2005 - was so stable with
2000 - now I am getting frustrated!

Does HTML interpretation in SQL Server Reporting Services exist?

Hi everybody

Is there a way to show HTML tags in a SQL Server Reporting services just like we are used to do in Crystal Reports?

I my case, I use the property Text Interpretation: HTML (right click in parameter field inside report and click edit parameter menu option).

I was wondering if we have something similiar in Reporting services?!

HTML inlining is not supported with RS 2005. It is on the top list for the next release.|||Thank you for being responsive Teo. We`ll be waiting for the next SQL Server Reporting Services release.

best regards

Wander Mahet|||when is the next release coming out? are there any workarounds in the meantime? are there any resources, links, etc on importing/using custom controls in reports?|||

The release date of the next release of SQL Server "Katmai" is not announced yet. It will probably happen at TechEd next month. As you would notice by searching on the web the rumors are that it will ship sometimes in 2008. Currently, the only workaround I can think of is to create a custom report item although it will be probably an overkill. This article introduces CRI development. I recommend you put the requirements on the backburner for a year or so if possible. Inline HTML rendering is on the top list for the next release and I will be suprised if doesn't get implemented.

Does anyone knows how to FTP a report from Reporting Services?

Does anyone knows how to FTP a report from Reporting Services?
I have several FTP sites I need to send reports to, but I cannot find a way to do it.
I have tried to search the net for the answer, but I keep reading that you can FTP a report.
But It does not say how.

Help!
thank you drey

Hey Drey --

Unfortunately, there is no direct support for this "built in" to SSRS. If you are willing to invest a little time, you can implement this functionlity yourself, however.

You'll need to build something called a custom delivery extension (just like we have an email delivery extension and a fileshare delivery extension "built in"). The "FTP extension" would take the report that you get back from SSRS, login to some FTP site, and deposit it there. Again, this is all code you would have to write on your own.

You might want to spellunk around on some SSRS sites (search gotdotnet.com, maybe) and see if someone has already written a prototype.

Does any version supprt embedding EMF (vector based) images into Reports?

Hi all,
Does any version of Reporting Services support embedding vector based images
(such as EMF's, or WMF's) into Reports?
RobHello Robert,
Based on my scope, SQL 2000/2005 reporting services do not support embed
EMF files in a report though you could render a report to EMF type files by
using Image Rendering Extension.
You may want to use image converter to convert EMF/WMF files to JPG etc so
that you could embed them into a report. Also, you could send your feedback
by clicking Send feddback button in toolbar in SQL 2005 Books Online.
All product or service suggestions received become the sole property of
Microsoft. Should a suggestion be implemented, Microsoft is under no
obligation to provide compensation.

Does anonymous access have to be disabled in IIS?

I want anonymous users to be able to see my reports. But it says here it
has to be disabled.
http://www.microsoft.com/products/ee/transform.aspx?EvtSrc=Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ErrorStrings.resources.Strings&EvtID=rsAccessDenied&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server+Reporting+Services&ProdVer=8.00
I'm getting an rsAccessDenied if I give it anon access.Ok, I got a solution, but is this ok?
I got anonymous access to work on the report server. I hope there's no
security issues with it. Reporting services won't allow anonymous access,
so I set in IIS ReportServices Properties->Directory Security-> anonymous
access->edit-> anonymous access->edit
And Used my username Domain/CLee and my password. Also Integrated Windows
Security needs to be checked too.
Then, anyone can access the report server.

then you have succeeded.
A better way of allowing anonymous access is to
1. give the IUSR_computername the required permissions (for ex. browser, or
content manager) in the report server - use Home | Properties | Security and
Site Settings | Security
2. enable anonymous access, and leave the account as IUSR_machine... or some
equally unpermissioned account.

Does 2k5 Reporting Services need IIS?

I'd like to produce dynamic reports via SQL Server 2k5 Reporting
Services that can be rendered in a web browser. However, I don't want
anything to do with IIS or a web server. From what I've heard,
previous version of SQL Server Reporting Services needed IIS. Is this
true for 2k5?
Thanks,
BrettRS 2005 comes with WebForm and WinForm controls for showing reports. Also, t
hese can be client side
only (where the reporting engine is essentially built into the controls). Bu
t this is about as much
as I know. I suggest you post this to an RS forum, where you are more likely
to get a precise
response.

Thanks,

These controls can either work with RS or can run in local mode where no
server is required. It takes some more work, especially for subreports, jump
to report etc but it works quite well. In local mode you give it the report
and the data and then it renders it.

Document Last Page Printout

I am using Crystal Reports 8.5. I could not setup a print out of a word or phrase in the last page of a document, when the document runs into more than 1 page, under Page Footer. If the document is only 1 page, then the word will print on the first page.

What I am trying to do is to design the report format to print an invoice, and if the invoice runs into more than 1 page, to print the word or phrase only on the last page. I have done all the groups, etc. and the report runs ok.

It will be appreciated if anyone can advise and help. Thank you.just try to put that word or phrase in the Report footer section.
