Does SQL Server 2005 Workgroup edition support scheduling report?

Hello,

In the feature list of workgroup edition, it says Reporting services is included.

After I finally installed it, the reporting service is there as expected. But what is missing is the subscription tab in the report manager. Then I went to Reporting service Configuration Manager, and I saw emailing setting is there (which indicates scheudling and emailling is supported), then I setup valid sender email address and SMTP server, but the Subscription tab is still missing.

Could anyone (from microsoft) tell me whether emailling and scheduling are supported in Workgroup edition or not?

Subscriptions are available for Standard Edition and Enterprise Editions. Data-driven subscriptions are Enterprise Edition only.

Does SQL Reporting 2005 work with Visual Studio 2003?

My company is looking into using SQL Reporting 2005. My question is if you have SQL Reporting 2005 do you need to also run Visual Studio 2005 or can you still design reports in Visual Studio 2003?

When you insall SQL 2005 you get the VS2005 tools as well as part of the package. As far as I know you cannot create RS 2005 reports with VS 2003 and you dont need to because SQL 2005 comes with the tols you need.|||Great. Thank youaus_nexxus for answering my question.sql

One of the common usage of report parameters in reporting services is having a free form text. One of the common ways of bringing data to RS is by using stored procs -- usually taking inputs from report parameters.

Does RS2005 have safeguards for SQL Injections and other hacking problems?

RS uses the .Net SqlClient classes for building its queries. These classes guard against SQL injections issues.sql

Does RS recognize CHAR(13)?

I am making a query for mailing labels that I will generate in Reporting
Services. I have a SQL Server stored procedure that returns the address using
SQL like this
SELECT Address + CHAR(13) + Address2 + CHAR(13) + City + ' ' + State + ' '
+ Zip AS FullAddress
FROM ...
Assume the data is:
Address: 123 Main Street
Address2: Suite 3
City: Bellevue
State: WA
Zip: 98111
I assign the FullAddress field to a textbox in Reporting Services. I resize
it to be several lines high. The result I get is something like this:
123 Main StreetSuite3Bellevue
WA 98111
I have tried using CHAR(10) + CHAR(13) instead of just CHAR(10), but I get
double spaces. Does RS handle CHAR() output? Do I need to use separate fields?I've done this before but in the actual field expression not in the query.

Chr(10) to work in the actual field expression, but chr(10) + chr(13) did.
For the benefit of future thread readers...I went a step further and created
a code block in the Report|Report Parameters command to make things a little
cleaner. It easily handles the common case where the second address line is
empty (Note: my query returns an empty string rather than a NULL if there is
no Address2). My code is this:

I can see how to add a page header to a report in Reporting Services. But
is there a Report Header section? What I need to do is to display a reoprt
title on the Report Header, then force a new page after the Report Header
section and list my data. How can something like this be accomplished using
Reporting Services?

collection but nothing caught my attention for forcing upper case. I could
force upper case at the datasource level, but is there a way to specify/force
character casing at the Report Textbox level? How to do that?

report body. I see your point on the layout, nothing comes to mind...you
can have a zero height, but then it would be pretty darn hard to add your
textbox layout.
Here's what I'd try:
Make a backup copy, or use source control
Note the top property of the topmost item in the body
Cut everything in the body
Add two rectangles
Paste everything into the second rectangle
Use the up/down arrows with everything selected in the rectangle so you get
the same top spot noted before
set the page break property on the first rectangle
For the uppercase you have access to quite a bit.

I am not quite sure what you mean about using the up/down arrows. Do you
mean the up/down arrow keys? The textboxes are located inside a list
control. The list control and the topmost textbox are at the very top of the
body position 0,0.
So I added the 2 rectangles and have copied the contents of the list control
(and all the textboxes inside the list control) to the 2nd rectangle.
Anyway, as I expected, I am having some issues with the layout. The
pagebreak for the first rectangle/title page didn't really break the page.
The data page is starting on the same page as the title page. I guess I will
have to experiment a little bit. Suggestions appreciated.

Does RS 2000 work with Visual Studio 2005 express?

Hi,
I want to try an evaluation version of Reporting Services 2000, but it
requires Visual Studio 2003 which I don't have. I don't see an evaluation
version of Visual Studio 2003 anywhere, but a free download of Visual Studio
2005 Express is available. Will Reporting Services 2000 work if I install
Visual Studio 2005 Express instead of Visual Studio 2003?

The server portion of Reporting Services doesn't require Visual Studio
at all, so that portion would work. However, the Report Designer tool
won't work with VS 2005 Express.

Can anyone please confirm how well e-mail delivered subscriptions of
reports work using Novell Groupwise as the mail solution?
There is a post in this forum that suggests Novell Groupwise suffers
from the same corruption of PDF and Excel attached reports as Lotus
Notes.We've run it with V6.5 GroupWise using PDF attachments without any problems
so far.

Hi. I'm a newbie to Reporting Services and have a few questions about it,
Does Reporting Services 2005 support export to PDF? How about Word and Excel?Is it possible to group items on a report, and have comments displayed for rows that have them, as a line indented below the main row? Here's an example, My Report

I'm sold on SSRS -- just trying to get the folks in my department on board. They've used a product called Cognos, and their users hate -- plus it costs a bundle of money to buy and maintain. 2000 then it's free. If you install it on it's own server then you have to
pay a licence fee for Reporting Services (which I think is equivalent to a
SQL Server licence).

Would it be possible to buy a license for SQL server, not install SQL
server and then have both the data and application tables in an Oracle
database?
A customer of ours does not want to support SQL Server at all. I can
accept that they need a SQL license to use RS, but is there a way to
get around the SQL requirment for the app tables? Will moving the
tables from SQL to Oracle (and the configuring RS to use Oracle)
result in application errors?
I was hoping someone knew the answers before I started testing the
scenarios above.No. SQL Server is needed by Reporting Services. The data can be anywhere but
RS needs SQL Server to operate (the database can be on a separate server but
it has to be somewhere).

Does Reporting Services have any codefile?

I am just starting to use Sql 2005 Reporting Services. So far doing trivial things has been easy, but now I want to develop some logic to make my report appear as I want - select images from the database, calculate data for display with complex logic, etc. It would be very easy if a Report had a structure like a web page or a window with a code file attached to the page (or form). This would make it easy to write VB code to respond to events such as Page_Start, Next_Record, etc. However I can't find anything like this - using View Code merely shows the XML definition of the report, which is rather like looking at the source of a web page.

Have I missed the VB (or C#) window, or do I have to figure out how to express all my logic as expressions attached to individual fields?

You can write a custom code for ur reports in SSRS by going to Report properties and then to the code tab... and one ur write the code u can call that piece of code in ur report by code.functionname(and the parameters for it)

Karen, that might help when I figure out how to use it. I found the Code tab, but am I writing VB, C#, Javascript, or something else, and into what environment? I'm blundering around here like the proverbial bull in a china shop: can you recommend a tutorial, white paper, or textbook that I should start with? I have been writing ASP Net 2.0 code for about 18 months, so I'm generally happy with ASP Net, SQL, VB, etc, but as always when you start with a new tool the help is hopeless, there's nothing to tell you the basic concepts and how it all hangs together, just lots and lots of unconnected details. If I'm going to make sense of SSRS then I need to get some sort of grounding. For example, ofergal referred to "reportviewer" - what is this and how does it integrate with SSRS with its report designer etc?

Report Viewer is way of viewing ur reports using a aspx page.. like suppose if u want the users to run their own reports and u dont want to give direct access to the report server by giving ur credentials. In that case in ur aspx page u can add a control call report viewer and give ur crediatials in the aspx page or the webconfig and ur user can access the reports

Does Reporting Services allow you to select a dataset dynamically?

I have a remote report ...
I need to call one of two stored procedures depending on which parameters were passed to the report. (Both stored procedures return the same fields.)
Does SQL Reporting Services allow you to switch the dataset or stored procedure name dynamically? If so, where do I put the logic? Right now I have it working with one stored procedure.
I'm thinking that I should just make one stored procedure that takes all parameters and calls one of the other two stored procedures. Do I have any options besides this?

Your query can be expression-based, e.g.; =Iif(Parameters!SomeParameterValue = 0, "EXEC sp1 1<parameter list>", EXEC sp2 1<parameter list>"). Alternatively, if the sp choice can be based on a configuration convention, you can use the Report Server web.config file to store the config value. The later case is demonstrated by the DynamicConnection report in this download. The report uses a dynamic connection string but the same approach can be applied to the query.|||That worked. Thanks!

My report has some chinese. It can be display by IE, but when I export it
as PDF, the chinese words are displayed by "'?" in PDF file.
I don't know how to handle it.I have the same problem.
The Chinese characters show very well in HTML. However, when I export it to
PDF, all of these Chinese characters show as question mark -- ? even I use
Chinese version of Acrobat Reader.
Is it a reporting service bug?

But I am very sad that when I upgrade to SP1, PDF is OK and E-mail in worng
code(GB2312, it should be UTF-8)
