Does SQL SERVER MANAGEMENT come with Visual Studio Prof 2005?

I'm following a video tutorial about SQL wherein I'm told to download SQL SERVER MANAGEMENT STUDIO EXPRESS. However I have just bought and installed the whole MS visual studio pro 2005 along with the SQL that comes with it.

I'm afraid to download and install the SQL SERVER MANAGEMENT STUDIO in case it botches up my prg already installed. Can anyone tell me if this management tool is already installed along with the package I have (if so, where is it - not listed in programs)

Thank you for your time.

SQL Server 2005 Developer is included with the Pro VS, this includes the full version of the SQL Server Management Tools. In regards to the tutorial you are using the functions are exactly the same... you actually have more functions in the Developer Version.

Thanks Glenn

Sorry to be so thick but can you tell me how to open the management console? (I'm totally new to VS and SQL and it's not obviously listed on the programs start menu) All there is under SQL Server on the start menu is: SQL Server configuration tools (and none of these mention a server management area).

here is the list of available options under that menu:
'Notifications Services command prompt'
''SQL Server configuration manager' and
''SQL Server error usage and report' and
'SQL Server surface area configuration'

Thanks again for your help

You might have to use the install disks re run the setup amd make sure that the client tools are installed.

Does SQL Reporting 2005 work with Visual Studio 2003?

My company is looking into using SQL Reporting 2005. My question is if you have SQL Reporting 2005 do you need to also run Visual Studio 2005 or can you still design reports in Visual Studio 2003?

Thanks!!

When you insall SQL 2005 you get the VS2005 tools as well as part of the package. As far as I know you cannot create RS 2005 reports with VS 2003 and you dont need to because SQL 2005 comes with the tols you need.|||Great. Thank youaus_nexxus for answering my question.sql

Does SQL Express suport SQL Agant?

hi

As you may know by default instalation SQL Agant node in

object browser in Management Studio is not shown or is disabled.

For me It is not shown. So I enabled OLE Automation in

Surface Area configuration.Even by doing this I can't find the SQL Agant service in

Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Services

so I want to know should I do any thing else or does SQL Express suport SQL Agant service at all?

thanks

SQL Server Agent is not included with SQL Express.

Does Service Pack 2 affect Client Tools?

Hello,

Does Service Pack 2 affect client tools? In other words, if you have a client machine with just the tools installed (management studio, BIDS, etc) do I need to run the SP2 package on this client as well?

Regards, Jeroen

YES. Always update ALL clients to the same SP as the servers.

Does RS 2000 work with Visual Studio 2005 express?

Hi,
I want to try an evaluation version of Reporting Services 2000, but it
requires Visual Studio 2003 which I don't have. I don't see an evaluation
version of Visual Studio 2003 anywhere, but a free download of Visual Studio
2005 Express is available. Will Reporting Services 2000 work if I install
Visual Studio 2005 Express instead of Visual Studio 2003?
Thanks,
Evert> Will Reporting Services 2000 work if I install
> Visual Studio 2005 Express instead of Visual Studio 2003?
The server portion of Reporting Services doesn't require Visual Studio
at all, so that portion would work. However, the Report Designer tool
won't work with VS 2005 Express.

Does Report 2005 work with VS.Net 2003

Does anyone know if Report Services 2005 work with Visual Studio 2003?
Thanks,
JimNo it does not. It is based on the 2.0 framework while VS 2003 uses the 1.1
framework.

2005 requires VS 2005 codebase. By that I mean, if you have VS 2005 it will
integrate with it, otherwise RS 2005 ships with a version of VS 2005 for
developing reports.
Since it comes with everything needed to develop reports (unlike RS 2000
that required you have some version of VS) then there is really no need or
reason that I can see that whether it works with VS 2005 is an issue.

I did realized that installing SSRS 2005 installs Business Intelligence
Development Studio which allows creation of models and reports using Report
Designer. However, if I need to write custom code using C# that uses SSRS
2005 API such as ReportingServices2005( for things like executing the report
programmatically), I still need the C# compiler and the rest of the Visual
Studio features that are not part of Business Intelligence Dev Studio.
My queston was, can I do the above with VS 2003( with .net Framework 2.0
installed ) or do I need VS 2005 ?

api. I don't think it should make any difference if you are developing this
in VS 2003 or VS 2005. Web services know nothing about what you are calling
the web services from and you can do web services from either environment.
Note you are calling a web service, you are not creating a web service.

Does not allow remote connections

I have installed SQL Server 2005 Std on an XP system for development using VS 2005. When I try to
connect to the DB via Server Management Studio, I get the message that "... does not allow remote
connections".
When I launch Surface Area Configuration and select the Surface Area Configuration for Services and
Connections, I see only 4 services listed: Analysis, Reporting, Integration and SQL Server Browser.
There is no Database Engine Service listed!
Have I installed incorrectly?
TIA LarsHello,
Please check if the following folder exist:
%programfiles%\Microsoft sql server\mssql.1\mssql\data
If it does not exist, it seems the database engine is not installed, you
may want to go to Add/Remove program to install this component.

Documentation for Visual Studio Team Edition for Developers?

Is it possible to get some Help documentation for the latest Visual Studio Team Edition for Db Professionals (CTP).
I'd like to evaluate this product but can't find the Help/Documentation...

Am I missing something?

EricJust found it!

For those with the same problem, the answer is that the documentation is stored as a stand alone CHM file in the installation folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\DBPro\dv_VSTSDataConMain.chm).

Thanks Eric. I don't know what I would do without you !

document map not fully displayed

when i work with a report in visual studio with a document map, it displays
all members in the report on the map.
when the report is deployed to report server, it has the document map but
only displays the top 20 or so (first visible page) members and i can't
scroll down past the top 20.
i've witnessed this on various reports for both 2000 and 2005, is this a
bug? or is there some setting some where?
thanks,
