Does RS contain a Report Header section?
I can see how to add a page header to a report in Reporting Services. But
is there a Report Header section? What I need to do is to display a reoprt
title on the Report Header, then force a new page after the Report Header
section and list my data. How can something like this be accomplished using
Reporting Services?
Thanks,
RichWe use a rectangle on the first page and put our intro page there, then
check the page break after property.

section, then I place a page break there. I have placed 5 textboxes in a
list control. This report prints labels (real pain to set the column widths
a row spacings just right). I don't want to upset the spacings of the
textboxes because it took me a long time (and a lot of tree killing and ink
usage) to get the spacings just right in the detail section.
May I ask where I place the rectangle?
And to stretch this inch to a mile, I was just told that the labels have to
be all in uppercase. In my winform app there is a textbox property for
charactercasing. I did not see that in the RDL. I looked at the Globals
collection but nothing caught my attention for forcing upper case. I could
force upper case at the datasource level, but is there a way to specify/force
character casing at the Report Textbox level? How to do that?
Thank you for your help and patience. I really appreciate it.
Thanks,

report body. I see your point on the layout, nothing comes to mind...you
can have a zero height, but then it would be pretty darn hard to add your
textbox layout.
Here's what I'd try:
Make a backup copy, or use source control
Note the top property of the topmost item in the body
Cut everything in the body
Add two rectangles
Paste everything into the second rectangle
Use the up/down arrows with everything selected in the rectangle so you get
the same top spot noted before
set the page break property on the first rectangle
For the uppercase you have access to quite a bit.
try:
System.String.ToUpper(field!myField.Value)

on ucase, I did in search for uppercase and discover ucase
(field!myfld.Value).toupper and your method - well, at least I got
charactercasing covered :).
Anyway, my idea for the title page was to place the rectangle/control
(actually a textbox which will take a param because the title will change
based on selections) on top of the other textboxes. On the first page, the
data textboxes are not visible, then after the first page, the title textbox
is not visible but the data textboxes are visible. Does this sound possible?
I am thinking I could set the pagebreak on the rectangle and have an
expression to control the visibility of the controls. Any comments
appreciated if this is doable or not.
Thanks again,

I am not quite sure what you mean about using the up/down arrows. Do you
mean the up/down arrow keys? The textboxes are located inside a list
control. The list control and the topmost textbox are at the very top of the
body position 0,0.
So I added the 2 rectangles and have copied the contents of the list control
(and all the textboxes inside the list control) to the 2nd rectangle.
Anyway, as I expected, I am having some issues with the layout. The
pagebreak for the first rectangle/title page didn't really break the page.
The data page is starting on the same page as the title page. I guess I will
have to experiment a little bit. Suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

Does reporting service support Chinese?
as PDF, the chinese words are displayed by "'?" in PDF file.
I don't know how to handle it.I have the same problem.
The Chinese characters show very well in HTML. However, when I export it to
PDF, all of these Chinese characters show as question mark -- ? even I use
Chinese version of Acrobat Reader.
Is it a reporting service bug?

Does Image Control support missing images?
control cannot find the image as specified in the External URL?
In other words... we supply the image name via a field... But if the image
does not exist, we get the red X. I want to display something other than the
red X.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
JimIf you have SP1 installed, then you could use an expression like this to
"hide" non-existing external images.
=iif(Trim(Fields!ExternalImagePath.Value) = "", Nothing,
Fields!ExternalImagePath.Value)
I.e. if the image.Value expression evaluates to Nothing, no red X will be
shown.

What I am looking for is this - The field will be populated with the name of
the image, we just don't know if the image will be there or not.
The image control in ASP.Net supports this - it will display a text message
instead of the Red X.

functionality is currently not supported. The closest you can get today is:
* either "hiding" non-existing external images through expressions as
outlined in the previous posting
* or use an expression on the Visibility property of the Image reportitem to
conditionally hide non-existing images. The expression would make a call
into a custom assembly with the image path value as parameter and would
return true if the image exists - which would then not hide the Image
reportitem. So it is doable right now, but there is some work involved to
get it done.

Does Boolean DataType Exists in SQL server
How can i opt for boolean ( nearest ) ?
I've used Bit with not null
i want 2 display column of bit datatype into Checkbox .. Is is possible??
Whenver i bind the datatype of bit for checkbox it is throwing an error??
HELP ME HELP MEBit works fine as a boolean field, I don't have any problems. It is most likely a problem with nulls in your data. You can bind the bit filed to the checked property of a checkbox and you can put that checkbox in a repeater or datagrid using TemplateColumn.
Can you show your code. Or have you already resolved this issue. I know it is a bit old.

Document Map doesnt display in IE7
Can anyone help,
I have created a report which works great when the users run from IE6, but when anyone runs report from IE7, the report displays ok, but the document appears to build but displays absolutely nothing.
Has anyone seen this problem with IE7 using Reporting Services 2000?
Thanks people

Do we know when Reporting Services finish the report??
I'm using Reporting Services with ASP .NET, user input report parameters in the web page then click submit, report will be display in an IFRAME in page. For a small report, things go fine. However, some reports need about a minute or 2 to finish, and during that time, all we can see is a blank rectangle frame... Because the code's only job is passing parameters to Reporting Services, no running status is displayed in the status bar. Sometimes our users think that the report contains no data, but it's actually running.
I was trying to put a "Please wait" button in the page, but the wait message runs only when the program was still in OnClick proc, which is not correct in this case because OnClick finished just in second...
Any way we can know when Reporting Services finish loading data to the frame, so we can display a message or status? Right now I have to put a text say: Report process will take up to 5 minutes, please wait
Thanks,Use ReportViewer Control to show the Reports in ASP.NET pages.

Regards,
Karthik.A|||
I'm using Report Viewer now. And that's why I have the problem. Whenever you push parameters to Reporting Services, Report Viewer "iframe" will be displayed right away, but first as a blank rectangle, then the data will appear. For a small report, the time is about a second or 2, but for some of my reports, you have to stare at that rectangle for a few minutes to see data...
And 'cause Report Viewer is loaded, no way (IMO) ASP page can know whether the data is displayed or not....
Anyway we can know when the data is displayed in the Viewer so I can tell the user?
Thanks for yr time, though
what i did ,First invisible the ReportViewer and the time of assigning the path i make it visible.
and try using Collapsable panel of eworld.UI control.
Regards,
Karthik.A
|||But for a lot of processing, the report will not display data right after you assign the path. When you assign the path, you actually pass on the parameters, no data is available yet... My problem is after I assign the path, I make the Report Viewer visible and my sub finish; but it takes the report a few minutes to process all the SQL query then push data back to the page. In the mean time, all you see is a blank rectangle.|||yes u r correct
i too tried for the same.i also got the same problem.
i have facerd another problem
when i try to send a long parameter as Query string
it gives me an Error stating Query Parameter is too long exceds 256 Characters.
How can i overcome this.
please enlighten me.
Thanx,
Karthik.A
|||Well, for a parameter, I'm not really sure why you want to put too much data in it. 256 is fine for me. If I want to pass long string to the report, I rather put it in a db table, then have the report read it... I don't think execute 1 more SQL Select command hurts your performance...
