Does SQL Server 2005 Workgroup edition support scheduling report?
Hello,
In the feature list of workgroup edition, it says Reporting services is included.
After I finally installed it, the reporting service is there as expected. But what is missing is the subscription tab in the report manager. Then I went to Reporting service Configuration Manager, and I saw emailing setting is there (which indicates scheudling and emailling is supported), then I setup valid sender email address and SMTP server, but the Subscription tab is still missing.
Could anyone (from microsoft) tell me whether emailling and scheduling are supported in Workgroup edition or not?
Thanks a lot!
Details about available RS features per edition can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/technologies/reporting/rsfeatures.mspx
Subscriptions are available for Standard Edition and Enterprise Editions. Data-driven subscriptions are Enterprise Edition only.

sqlDoes sql server 2000 require a reboot?
I'm installing 2k developer, and the service pack 3a. Do either of these
require a reboot?
Thanks in advance
RyanSee the SP3a readme, section 3.4 (but I always reboot the computer after
installing a service pack. You need to take down SQL Server anyway if you
install an SP, so what's another 2 minutes for a server reboot?):
3.4 Stop Services and Applications Before Running SP3a Setup
The following information applies to all components.
You can apply SP3a without shutting down services. If you do not shut down
services, you are prompted to reboot the computer when Setup is complete.
Without rebooting, the following services fail to start:
a.. Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) and the
Microsoft Search and MSSQLServerOLAPService services.
b.. The MSSQLServer and SQLServerAgent services for the instance being
upgraded (for example, MSSQL$NamedInstance).
c.. Microsoft Component Services, Microsoft Message Queuing, and Microsoft
COM Transaction Integrator.
d.. All applications, including Control Panel. (optional)
You can apply SP3a without restarting your computer by stopping these
services and applications before applying the SP3a.
You cannot stop the services in a clustered environment. For more
information, see Section 3.10 Installing on a Failover Cluster.

to failover the cluster and/or restart the sql server services. I am

Thanks,
TimNo, SB does not use DTC. As far as I understand, the re-try of message sending is built-in to SB
itself, which uses TCP sockets (defined when you create your endpoint). As I understand it, the data
format (the protocol between two SB instances) isn't public, and it is in binary format (no XML or
similar). I suggest you pick up Roger Wolter's book on SB, great reading, with lots of insight...

does service broker come with sql express?
we're a little confused, we understand that between instances of sql express that a licensed edition would be necessary for service broker to be used but what if there is just one sql express edition/instance in the picture, does service broker come with express and can most of service broker's features be used "intra" (inside) that instance?
SQL Server Service Broker does come with Express. And you do need another (paid) edition involved for messages that pass outside the instance.
From http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345154.aspx#sseover_topic10:
SQL Server Express can use Service Broker only in combination with other SQL Server 2005 editions. If SQL Server Express receives a Broker message from another Express instance, and if another SQL Server 2005 edition has not processed the message, then the message is dropped. So the message can originate from an Express instance and end up at one, but it must be routed through a non-Express instance if that is the case. You can check a Message Drop trace event that is accessible from the Profiler or use tracing stored procedures to track this type of occurrence. The error message associated with the dropped message includes verbiage to this effect: "This message has been dropped due to licensing restrictions."

To clarify, I understand that the service account does not have to be a
local administrator on the machine, but does it have to be a member of the
sysadmin fixed server role?
I have a SQL Server that runs under a domain account. This SQL Server has
BUILTIN\Administrators removed from the system administrators role. The
domain account used to start the MSSQL service is not a member of the
sysadmin role. Curiously, the SQL Server runs without issue. This tells me
that membership in the sysadmin role is not required. However, if this same
account was used to start the SQL Server AGent, would it then be required to
have membership in the sysadmin role?

On Windows 2000 and later, MSDTC is the responsibility of the OS and will be
updated with OS Service Packs.
If you need a hotfix for DTC, call Microsoft PSS in your area.

Does IIS need to be installed on the SQL Server machine?
database on another server, do I need IIS installed on the server that houses
the ReportServer database? I'd rather not have IIS and SQL Server on the
same machine. No you do not. IIS has to be only on the server that has RS installed. RS is
an asp.net application.

Does creating KPI require cube reprocess?
The Books Online is being incorrect in this case. You dont need to re-process your cube after creating KPI's.

Does anyone know what this means? Anyone?
get this when trying to send an email subscription or a file-share
subscription. Running the service as a domain account and made the account a
member of the WAA group.I should probably mention that I love the "there is more information in the
log file" message that you can find....you guessed it...in the log file.

file".
so I checked the log file, and it said "there is more information in the log
file".
so I checked the log file, and it said "there is more information in the log
file".

so I checked the log file, and it said "there is more information in the log

so I checked the log file, and it said "there is more information in the log
file".
I eventually got out of this endless loop after about 16 hours of
recursively checking the log file.

Documentation Tools for SSB?
Does anyone know if there are automated documentation tools around that will produce docs for Service Broker objects?
Thanks,
AndrewM
There is no tool for documentation, but there is one for retrieving a more formal specification (Called service listing). It's called Service Listings Manager and Remus has contributed that to the code gallery. You might want to use that as a starting point to build a doc generator.
